03 Aug 100 Hole Challenge – Spare For Change
September 7th update – 100 holes COMPLETE!
I am writing to sincerely thank you, the members, for your support in the Spare for Change 100 Holes of Golf fundraiser. Myself and our three other PGA Professionals successfully played 88 miles of golf through 100 holes. Ben Welsh, PGA, Dave Brown, PGA, and Colin Miller, PGA will always be family to me for their dedication to this project. It was an incredible day of amazing golf. I was able to sneak in 21 birdies and four eagles through this challenge. Quite a day!
Our Mission Statement is to give everyone the opportunity to learn the game of golf. To do this, we provide free golf clubs to players of all ages and experience levels. Even though our primary goal is to serve underprivileged kids, we believe everyone has the opportunity to learn the game of golf. Through golf, opportunities are created for personal and professional growth at all stages in life. To provide these opportunities, Spare for Change recycles unused golf clubs and puts them in the hands of new players. This also sustains growth in the game by starting new players and furthering the education of our PGA Members to become more effective teachers who inspire their students to make golf a reality. Golf is a life skill and another language.
Every state has an opportunity for new golfers. Our blueprint of storing clubs in a stack of pallets works for getting garage after garage cleaned out of used golf equipment waiting to have a second chance for new players. We are located in Hawaii, Southwest Virginia, Toronto and Southern California. Colorado is next and we have been working diligently with the PGA professionals in Colorado to establish our base.
Since our creation in 2011, we have collected and redistributed 30,000 clubs from existing golfers into the hands of new players.
Your contribution helps us to continue operating our mission.
Donations from the 100 holes pledges can be mailed no later than September 15th to:
David Havens
PO Box 4823
Eagle, CO 81631

Checks to be made out to Spare for Change. We also accept credit card payments through our website, www.spareforchange.org, or Venmo @spareforchange.
Please include your mailing address so I can provide you with the tax donation information.
Again, thank you for your support of Spare for Change and for bringing the Havens family to Eagle, Colorado. The job here at Frost Creek has been one of the best times of my life. We will always remember this incredible experience!
Best,
David
AUGUST 10th UPDATE! How many of you know people with a garage full of clubs?
We have collected about a 100 clubs and have secured $15,000 so far for September 1st.
The purpose is simple. To grow golf by recycling clubs to new players. Or a single club they don’t use and have replaced? Havens takes these donated clubs and puts them in the hands of players, who need help getting started. This is how we can lower the barriers for new players in the game.
In order to continue his mission in our community, he is first looking to host a “golf club recycling drive” within the Vail Valley to collect clubs. Tax donation letters will be provided to all who donate clubs and letters will be delivered to all participating courses prior to August 14th to hand out.
Next, he will host an event to provide these donated clubs to those in our community.
If you are interested in participating in this event or have questions, please contact David Havens, PGA at david@spareforchange.org.
Thank you for your support in growing golf with residents in our community.

Many of you have now met our new Assistant and Teaching Professional, David Havens, PGA. David has founded a non-profit in Hawaii and is expanding services to Colorado with our new relationship in the Vail Valley. Our professional staff will all be participating in the 100 hole challenge to support his efforts in growing the game of golf here locally. Please see below for information and cheer us on for 100 holes on September 1st!
We are pleased to introduce THE Spare for Change Frost Creek 100 Holes of Golf. This event resembles a charity walk style fundraiser only we are playing 100 golf holes versus walking miles. All four of your Frost Creek PGA Golf Professionals will be raising money by playing in the event. We will begin the challenge at 6:30am on Tuesday, September 1st.
The purpose of this fundraiser is to support Spare for Change, Inc., a 501(c)(3) founded in 2011 by David and Susan Havens. The mission of Spare for Change is to help grow the game of golf by putting unused, recycled clubs in the hands of new players of all ages. Recycling clubs was the foundation in which Spare for Change was builhttps://www.mauinews.com/sports/local-sports/2020/01/with-spare-for-change-havens-gives-back-by-sharing-love-of-golf/t. We teach how to use the donated clubs and learn the greatness of the game.
Spare for Change’s mission is growth through golf. Golf brings together families of all generations to spend more time together, underprivileged to be exposed to a game that can take them places and gives opportunities to professionals of all disciplines. If you want to learn, we will help put the tools in your hands to make that happen. Spare for Change is based on Maui and currently has locations on each Hawaiian island, Virginia, Southern California, Eastern Canada and coming soon to Colorado to recycle clubs. Since 2011, we have collected and redistributed 30,000 clubs from existing golfers’ garages into the hands of new players.
Donations for this fundraiser can be an amount per completed hole or a set amount donation. This event is our largest fundraiser of the year and will help the nonprofit with all the operations needed to make the game a better place. If you are interested in supporting the event, please contact David Havens, PGA at the Frost Creek Golf Shop, or by calling 808.298.8012 and/or by emailing david@spareforchange.org.
