16 Aug No Smoking! Eagle County under Stage 2 Fire Restrictions
With the Grizzly Creek Fire filling the Brush Creek Valley and the entire state of Colorado with smoke it’s a great time to share some fire safety information. Eagle County is under a Stage 2 fire restriction and as a reminder smoking is not allowed outside at this time including anywhere on the golf course. Our valley and the entire state are in drought conditions and we all need to exercise extreme caution. A small spark can have disastrous consequences.
I’m sharing the following information below:
- Stage 2 Fire Restriction Information
- An update from the Eagle County Wildland Fire Team on their current status/readiness
- A link on how to prepare your own “Personal Wildfire Action Plan”
- For the most up to date information on the Grizzly Creek Fire find them on Facebook under Grizzly Creek Fire.
- Eagle County is currently under “Stage Two Fire Restrictions”. The photo at the top of the post shows the restrictions on a basic level. For a detailed explanation follow the link below. http://www.ecemergency.org/2020/04/eagle-county-fire-restriction-info.html
Violation of federal fire restrictions is punishable by a fine of not more than $100,000 or imprisonment for not more than 12 months or both. Those found responsible for starting wildfires will also face restitution costs of suppressing the fire.
2. Here is a recent update from the Greater Eagle Fire Protection District
My name is Hugh Fairfield-Smith, I am the Wildland Coordinator for the Greater Eagle Fire Protection District. I wanted to give everyone an update as to what we are doing as a district to keep our community safe. We know that the Grizzly Creek Fire has many on edge and full of concerns.
The District has chosen to staff with additional wildfire engines and command officers to ensure the safety of our district. Eagle River Fire who is to the East is also staffing additional engines. We share a wildfire program and will be working closely together. This staffing increase will continue for the foreseeable future. We are choosing to do so to support any new starts that may happen and keep fires small. The Forrest Service also has 3 additional engines in the area for new fires.
The Grizzly Creek Fire has taken over Initial Attack responsibility for the majority of the area to the west and parts of Gypsum Fires district. This takes a huge responsibility for the shoulder of our local resources and we are thankful for the support.
We are doing everything we can to keep the community safe and educated. I do ask that you share this information with your HOAs for a piece of mind. I also ask that you advise the community to follow Greater Eagle Fire, Eagle River Fire, and the Grizzly Creek Fire Facebook pages for the most up to date information.
Please contact with any question day or night!
Thank You,
Hugh Fairfield-Smith
